The government continues to strengthen support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through key financial assistance schemes aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and employment generation. Two major initiatives, the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), are playing a significant role in helping small businesses access finance and establish new enterprises across Bharat.
Under PMEGP, aspiring entrepreneurs can receive margin money subsidies of up to 35% for setting up non-farm micro-enterprises. The scheme is designed to encourage self-employment and create sustainable job opportunities, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Through financial support for new projects, PMEGP enables individuals to establish small manufacturing or service units while reducing their initial financial burden.
The scheme is implemented through a network of banks and supported by agencies such as the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, which plays a central role in monitoring and promoting the program. By providing financial assistance and guidance, the initiative has helped thousands of entrepreneurs start small businesses and contribute to local economic development.
Alongside PMEGP, the CGTMSE scheme focuses on improving credit access for small businesses by providing collateral-free loans of up to ₹2 crore. Under this program, banks and financial institutions can offer loans to micro and small enterprises without requiring traditional collateral, significantly reducing barriers for new and growing businesses.
For smaller loans, the scheme provides even stronger support. Loans up to ₹5 lakh receive guarantee coverage of up to 85%, which reduces the risk for lending institutions and encourages them to extend credit to early-stage enterprises and startups.
Together, these schemes are strengthening the MSME ecosystem by improving access to finance, encouraging entrepreneurship, and generating employment opportunities. As MSMEs continue to play a vital role in Bharat’s economic growth, government-backed initiatives like PMEGP and CGTMSE remain key tools for empowering small businesses and supporting inclusive economic development.
